Stone-Coated Steel Roofing & Colorado Wildfire Resiliency

Wildfire resilience is becoming an increasingly important consideration when selecting roofing and exterior materials in Colorado.

Solstice Roofing is actively following and implementing the applicable requirements of the Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code and Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) standards as they are adopted and enforced by communities throughout Northern Colorado.

The new standards focus on making homes more resistant to wildfire, flames and wind-driven embers. Roofing is an important part of that strategy, with requirements addressing Class A roof assemblies, combustible materials, roof openings, vents, gutters and areas where embers can potentially enter or collect.

Stone-coated steel can be an excellent roofing option for homes located in Colorado's Wildland-Urban Interface. Unified Steel roofing combines a steel roofing panel with the appearance of traditional shake, shingle or tile while offering strong fire and severe-weather performance.

Proper installation is especially important. Some metal roofing profiles create spaces between the roof covering and roof deck, which can require additional detailing to resist the entry of flames and wind-driven embers.

Our team evaluates the complete roofing assembly—including the roof covering, underlayment, flashing, valleys, penetrations, ventilation, eaves and other critical transitions—to determine the appropriate installation for the home and applicable local requirements.

As Colorado communities continue implementing WUI standards, Solstice Roofing is committed to staying current with these requirements and helping homeowners understand how roofing materials and installation details can contribute to a more wildfire-resilient home.

For properties located within a designated WUI area, we review the applicable jurisdiction and requirements as part of planning the roofing system.
